This 1974 survey of ethnic crafts in Alberta was conducted by Red Deer College Fine Arts faculty at the request of RDC on behalf of the Department of the Secretary of State. The project called for a review of settler ethnic 'crafts', functional and decorative, and covering geographical sections of Alberta with a view to obtaining an ethnic and 'craft-wise' balance. Craft material culture includes anything where the material, the technique, or the design could be classified as traditional in origin. For additional information see the Project Guidebook.
NOTE: The contract for this survey called for the exclusion of Indigenous crafts; study of Indigenous crafts with special significance at the spiritual and cultural level were covered in other studies and outside the scope of the project.
